Before any candidate can be considered for submission to clients, the following procedures are adopted:-
1) Every applicant is interviewed in conjunction with their CV for experience, suitability and general demeanour and careful note taken and explanation sought for gaps in employment. Not everybody who appears suitable however, based on the above, would be considered for submission to clients and only about 20% of the people we interview would be considered for referral for temporary work.
2) Proof of identity is sought from all potential applicants. We require a copy of a passport for all applicants or if this is not available a copy of a full birth certificate and National Insurance Number. No applicant will be considered for employment until these documents are on file. Proof of an applicants' place of residence in the form of a utility or domestic rates bill may be sought if there is evidence that an applicant has moved house on a number of occasions.
3) After assessing initial suitability, a minimum of two and more often three employment references covering at least 3 years are taken upon all applicants (depending on time spent with previous employers).
4) It should be noted that we act as an independent intermediary when seeking references and do not accept references which applicants bring in with them as this is obviously subject to abuse. For younger applicants who may not have a long employment history, academic references from head teachers or tutors at schools or universities are taken. Personal references are taken in favour of potentially good applicants but always from a responsible individual (e.g. doctor, police officer, civil servant etc). Slightly less credence is given to personal as opposed to employment or academic references.
5) Where appropriate to the requirements of the temporary position being sought by the applicant, skills tests are given in basic IT systems, (primarily Word and Excel) as well as numeracy and literacy tests.
6) Where degree qualifications are claimed by an individual, we normally seek confirmation from the appropriate University and for GCSE and 'A' Level qualifications, we normally require confirmation in the form of certification or confirmation when we apply for a school reference. |
